The Foot Up Foundation was formally established in 2022 by Nick and Katherine York. The foundation is guided by a dedicated leadership team that includes Maureen Krige, who serves alongside Nick and Katherine as a director. Claire Caldecott and Dannean Krige work hand in hand with our beneficiairies and they are also responsible for the general day to day administration of the organisation. Together with Lorna McCrindle, Claire and Dannean also play a fiduciary role in the organisation.
Dr Nick York is an Ophthalmologist. He is passionate about South Africa and making a difference in tackling the gross socio-economic inequality in our country. Together with his wife, Dr Katherine York, he established the Foot Up Foundation to provide opportunities for young South Africans who show potential and determination, but lack the financial means and resources to establish their educational or vocational dreams.
Dr Katherine York is a Dermatologist and hair specialist. She has a heart for empowering and equipping underprivileged individuals, so that they can reach their full potential. The Foot Up Foundation was formed as a tool to do this.
Maureen Krige has been serving as a trustee of The Children's Feeding Trust in Port Elizabeth for 8 years. As a qualified social worker, she has a heart for social upliftment.
Claire has a passion for education and for seeing lives transformed through it. She left formal teaching to serve her community and family wherever she believes that God can use her. She founded an NPO for disadvantaged children in the Western Cape, before moving to the Eastern Cape. and now she spends time engaging in volunteer work with children, working part time for the Footup Foundation, and homeschooling her own children.
Dannean is a teacher by love and profession. Alongside her husband, she plays a vital role as an elder in their church community in the South of Johannesburg. She is also a passionate advocate for vulnerable women and children. Having volunteered with The Grace Factory for many years, Dannean has deepened her commitment to uplifting those in need. She believes in the power of community to make a difference, and is driven by a desire to see individuals and families supported and empowered.
